About TUDOR
Tudor Swiss Timepieces are famous for elevated style, incredible reliability, and mechanical design. “The Tudor” was first registered as a brand in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex; since then, classic and bold Tudor timepieces have been the luxury watches of choice for corporate professionals and trailblazing adventurers alike.
IN 2022, TO MARK THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BRITISH NORTH GREENLAND EXPEDITION, TUDOR IS PRESENTING THE RANGER MODEL, A TOOL WATCH CELEBRATING THE SPIRIT OF THIS DARING ADVENTURE, COMPLETE WITH MANUFACTURE CALIBRE MT5402, A 39-MILLIMETRE CASE AND A CLASP WITH RAPID ADJUSTMENT SYSTEM.
THE SPIRIT OF A TOOL WATCH
THE NEW RANGER CONTINUES, WITHIN THE TUDOR COLLECTION, THE TRADITION OF THE EXPEDITION WATCH, BORN WITH THE OYSTER PRINCE WATCHES USED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE BRITISH NORTH GREENLAND EXPEDITION. THE TRADITION OF A ROBUST, PRACTICAL, AND AFFORDABLE INSTRUMENT.
ADVENTUROUS SPIRIT
Throughout their history, TUDOR watches have been chosen by some of the boldest adventurers, like the 30 explorers who embarked on the two-year British North Greenland Expedition to study Arctic ice exactly 70 years ago, with TUDOR watches on their wrists. Brand founder Hans Wilsdorf supplied watches for the members of the expedition. He had just created the first waterproof and self-winding TUDOR watch, the Oyster Prince model, and couldn't imagine a better environment for testing it than the extreme climate of the Arctic. The Black Bay Pro model reflects the heritage of those instruments used by the pioneering explorers. This is a tool-watch designed for professional use.
INTRODUCING A NEW STEEL AND GOLD VERSION
The iconic Black Bay GMT model is also available in a S&G (Steel & Gold) version, featuring warm colours and a nostalgic touch. Recognisable by its 24-hour graduated rotating bezel with two colours, representing day and night, the Black Bay GMT S&G also gives a subtle aesthetic nod to the history of this watchmaking function.
TUDOR's famous Black Bay divers' watch is available with a GMT function that establishes local time without losing sight of the time in two other time zones. Fitted with the Manufacture Calibre MT5652, the Black Bay GMT sports a 24-hour graduated rotating bezel with two colours.
INTRODUCING A NEW CHAMPAGNE DIAL
Available in two versions, matt black or a sunray satin-finish champagne colour, the dial includes two recessed sub-counters in contrasting colours, a champagne colour and matt black respectively, for optimum legibility. The sub-counters have a circular-grained finish and, inspired by the first generation of TUDOR chronographs, feature a 45-minute counter and a date aperture positioned at 6 o'clock. Remaining faithful to the Black Bay aesthetic, the Black Bay Chrono S&G has adopted the famous “Snowflake” hands, a brand signature for divers’ watches since 1969, to ensure outstanding readability against the domed dial.
A CASE MADE OF CURVES AND SPARKLES
The case of the Black Bay 31, 36, 39 and 41 S&G models presents a sophisticated, curved vision of the famous Black Bay aesthetic. With its polished and domed sides in all available sizes, its soft silhouette is accentuated by a new curved winding crown. In addition to the seductive curves, the polished yellow gold of the bezel and crown is new to the Black Bay line, as the precious metals used to date have been exclusively satin-brushed for a matt finish. There is also the option of a diamond-set bezel for sizes 31, 36 and 39, a chic detail that enhances the watch's sparkle on the wrist.
SUNRAY-FINISH DIALS
The choice of dials on the Black Bay 31, 36, 39 and 41 S&G models includes black and silver with sunray satin-finish. The Black Bay line features dials inspired by the TUDOR divers’ watches produced during the 1950s. It borrows the characteristic angular hands known to collectors as “Snowflake” from models that appeared in the brand’s 1969 catalogue. Its unprotected crown and the characteristics of its case are reminiscent of the first generations of TUDOR divers’ watches.
INTRODUCING A NEW BRONZE VERSION
Tudor presents a new bronze version of the Black Bay Fifty-Eight featuring, for the first time, a bronze bracelet fitted with a new clasp with TUDOR “T-Fit” rapid adjustment system.
INTRODUCING A NEW GOLD VERSION
TUDOR is introducing a bold new version of its popular model, the Black Bay Fifty-Eight, in solid 18 ct yellow gold with an open case back. This is a first for both in a TUDOR divers’ watch.
INTRODUCING A NEW SILVER VERSION
TUDOR is also launching a unique new version of its popular Black Bay Fifty-Eight model in 925 silver – a first for a TUDOR divers' watch, and creating a surprising incandescence.
INTRODUCING THE NEW BLACK BAY CERAMIC
TUDOR is launching the Black Bay Ceramic model, an extraordinary watch and symbol of the brand's technical expertise, with a case in matt black ceramic, a Manufacture Calibre and a Master Chronometer certification from METAS.
BIG CROWN AND "SNOWFLAKE" HANDS
The Black Bay draws its most characteristic features from past models in the brand’s history. Its general lines, domed dial and crystal were inspired by the first TUDOR diving watches. It features the particularly prominent winding crown from the famous 7924 reference of 1958, aka the Big Crown, while its characteristic angular hands, known as “Snowflake”, were borrowed from the TUDOR watches used by the French National Navy in the 1970s.
A CASE THAT "CHANGES"
The central feature of the Black Bay Bronze model is its 43-millimetre bronze case, an aesthetic reference to the brass used in old ships and diving equipment. This "living" metal, a high-performance aluminium-copper alloy used in naval engineering for submerged parts that need to be highly resistant to corrosion, will produce a subtle, unique patina, based on the wearer's habits. In addition to a highly functional appearance, the Black Bay Bronze presents entirely satin-brushed finishes that guarantee homogeneous development of the patina.
BLACK, BLUE OR SILVER DIALS
The Black Bay 32, 36 and 41 in steel come with a choice of either a black, blue lacquered or silver dial. These shades offer outstanding contrast and clarity, while luminescent hour markers help ensure legibility in all conditions.
BIG CROWN AND "SNOWFLAKE" HANDS
Like other models in the line, the Black Bay 32, 36 and 41 feature a dial inspired by the TUDOR divers’ watches produced during the 1950s. They feature a prominent winding crown as a nod to the famous 7924 reference of 1958, aka the Big Crown, while its characteristic angular hands, known as "Snowflakes", were borrowed from the TUDOR watches used by the French National Navy in the 1970s.
TUDOR AND THE MARINE NATIONALE
TUDOR announced joining forces again with the Marine nationale (French Navy) in 2021, and in doing so reviving a relationship that started in 1956 and lasted decades. Back then, the Groupe d’Étude et de Recherches Sous-Marines (G.E.R.S.), a scientific body attached to the French Navy and based in Toulon, took delivery of some Oyster Prince Submariner watches in order to assess them in real-life situations. They were references 7922 and 7923, both waterproof to 100 metres (330 ft) and fitted with self-winding and manual movements, respectively. The waterproofness of these watches was judged to be "perfect" and their performance "entirely correct" by the G.E.R.S. commanding officer at the time. Persuaded by the potential of the instruments offered by the Genevan brand, he quickly placed more orders, enabling TUDOR to attain the status of "official supplier to the French Navy" in 1961. A status that TUDOR enjoyed through the 80's.
PATENTED AUTO-ADJUSTABLE BUCKLE
The Pelagos stands out with its titanium bracelet featuring a steel folding clasp with a unique auto-adjustable spring mechanism developed and patented by TUDOR. This technical system allows the bracelet to be adjusted during the dive, contracting when the combination is compressed at greater depths, and expanding when the pressure decreases again during the diver’s return to the surface. A complimentary rubber strap is also provided, equipped with an extension system that makes it easily adjustable for all diving conditions.
INSPIRED BY THE EMBLEMATIC CHRONOGRAPHS OF THE 1970S
The TUDOR Heritage Chrono is inspired by celebrated TUDOR chronographs of the early 1970s. All the lines of this storied timepiece have been meticulously reformulated to echo, with a contemporary spin, the exquisite contours of the coveted originals.
A CONTEMPORARY STATEMENT
Inspired by history but completely redesigned, the dial of the TUDOR Heritage Chrono has three-dimensional hour markers and two counters: one at 3 o’clock for the small seconds hand, and one at 9 o’clock for the 45-minute counter. Waterproof to a depth of 150 metres (500 feet), the 42 mm steel case has a bidirectional bezel with an anodized aluminium insert. Under its sapphire crystal, it is equipped with a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement with a 42-hour power reserve. The distinctive crown and pushers are knurled with a chrome finish. The crown is adorned with lacquered shield.
TIMELESS AND ELEGANT
Named after the year that the TUDOR brand was created by Rolex Founder Hans Wilsdorf, the timeless and elegant TUDOR 1926 line captures the essence of the brand, reflecting a world of fine Swiss watchmaking where mechanical excellence goes hand-in-hand with enduring sophistication.
AN EMBOSSED DESIGN DIAL
Domed for a vintage touch and adorned at the centre, the delicately embossed design of the 1926's dial is in subtle contrast with the smooth minute scale. Numeral appliques, arrow-shaped hour markers and sword-shaped hands offer a wealth of details that create an intricate play of light on the dials.
AT THE CROSSROADS BETWEEN CLASSIC AND SPORTS WATCHES
Royal is a name first used by TUDOR in the 1950s to emphasise the superior quality of its watches. With this heritage in mind, the TUDOR Royal range offers self-winding sport-chic watches with integrated bracelets that are as affordable as they are uncompromising. Boasting first-class technical performance and a refined aesthetic, this line sits at the crossroads between classic and sports watches. It comes in steel or gold and steel and is offered in four sizes with nine possible dials.
INTEGRATED "FIVE-LINK" BRACELET
The TUDOR Royal features an integrated metal bracelet ensuring an uninterrupted line with the case, TUDOR Royal embodies fluidity and unmistakable style. Characterised by its three wide satin-brushed links set between two slimmer polished elements, the smooth quality of its surfaces and edges emphasises the importance that TUDOR places on ensuring its comfort on the wrist. Available in steel or with alternating links in steel and yellow gold, the meticulous finishes of the models in this range cater to every taste.
