Dorcas & William
"The engagement ceremony in Dorcas' culture (Congolese / Bafuliru), the guy pretends to come in from a long journey, searching for fire (which represents the girl). The family welcomes him and asks what type of fire he is looking for: the kind to heat, to give light, to destroy, etc... They bring out each of the girl's sisters and cousins one-by-one, to see which "fire" the guy will choose. Each time the guy says "not this one" and asks the family to keep searching. Finally the right girl comes out, (cue the music), and everyone cheers when the guy says "this is the one" and gives her a hug.
At the end of the ceremony, the guy presents gifts, including the engagement ring. (The girl wears the ring on her middle finger, as you may have noticed from the picture.) The guy is supposed to return later for an engagement party."
